Women-owned Texas company brings 50+ years of independent garden-center experience to a new line of premium soils designed to make successful gardening easier
HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dirty Dirt Soil Company, a new women-owned Texas soil company rooted in more than five decades of independent garden-center experience, has launched a line of purpose-built soil products designed to help home gardeners achieve better results while giving independent retailers a differentiated new brand for their shelves.
The company grew from the family’s experience operating Plants For All Seasons, a Houston-area independent garden center founded in 1973. After decades spent helping customers select plants, troubleshoot gardening problems, and choose the right products for their projects, the Dirty Dirt founders saw an opportunity to rethink both the soil inside the bag and the way soil products are presented to consumers.
“We’ve spent our lives on the garden-center side of the counter, listening to customers and helping them figure out why something worked—or didn’t,” said Sherri Harrah and Kelly Koch, owners. “Dirty Dirt grew out of that experience. We wanted to create great soil products that are easy to understand, easy for retailers to recommend and, most importantly, help more people become successful gardeners.”
At the center of the Dirty Dirt philosophy is a simple idea: different growing applications require different soil solutions. Rather than building its product line around a single general-purpose soil, Dirty Dirt developed specialized blends based on what and where consumers are growing. The initial product family includes SOW-IT Seed Starting Blend, POT-IT and POT-IT Peat-Free Potting Soil, RAISE-IT Raised Bed Soil, BUILD-IT Bed Building Soil, CONDITION-IT Soil Conditioner, LEVEL-IT Composted Topsoil and COVER-IT Composted Mulch.
The straightforward naming system was intentionally created to help consumers quickly connect each product to a gardening project while making product recommendations easier for garden-center employees.
Dirty Dirt formulations incorporate carefully selected ingredients based on the intended application, including premium fertilizer, natural minerals, earthworm castings, kelp meal, and mycorrhizae in applicable blends. The company’s focus is on creating consistent, purpose-built products that give plants a strong foundation while reducing some of the uncertainty that can make gardening intimidating for consumers.
Built for gardeners, and committed to independent retailers, Dirty Dirt Soil Company was also created with a deliberate commitment to the independent retail channel.
Having spent decades operating an independent garden center, the company’s founders understand the importance of shelf space, employee recommendations, product performance, and customer trust. Dirty Dirt products are intended to give independent garden centers and select locally owned retailers a premium soil brand that supports—not competes with—their relationship with customers.
“Independent garden centers have always been about more than selling products. Customers come to us because they trust the people behind the counter. If we’re going to ask a retailer to recommend Dirty Dirt, we want them to feel confident about what’s in the bag and what that product can do for their customer.”
That philosophy is reflected in the company’s brand promise: Building Successful Gardeners One Dirt Bag at a Time.
Dirty Dirt Soil Company products are available to qualifying independent retailers through BWI Companies, an established wholesale distributor serving the lawn-and-garden industry.
The relationship provides Dirty Dirt with access to an established distribution network while allowing many retailers that already purchase through BWI to add the product line within an existing wholesale relationship. For retailers not currently working with BWI, Dirty Dirt Soil Company can provide information on how to get started.
Although Dirty Dirt Soil Company is new, the experience behind it is not. More than 50 years after the family’s first garden center opened its doors, the company is bringing that knowledge to a new generation of gardeners and independent retailers with a brand designed to make soil less complicated, gardening more approachable, and successful growing more attainable.
“We know how rewarding gardening can be when things go right—and how quickly people can become discouraged when they don’t,” said Sherri Harrah. “If Dirty Dirt can help someone have that first successful experience and give them the confidence to keep growing, we’ve done what we set out to do.”
Dirty Dirt Soil Company products are available through participating independent retailers. Retailers interested in carrying the product line can contact their BWI representative or Dirty Dirt Soil Company directly.
